Angus Postcards: From Glamis Castle to Kirriemuir

Glamis Castle is Angus's best-known subject for postcards. The ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore since 1372, it was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret was born there. The castle is also long associated with Shakespeare's Macbeth, though the historical King Macbeth himself had no real connection to the building.

Arbroath Abbey is another Angus landmark that recurs throughout this collection. Founded in 1178 by William the Lion, King of Scots, it's best known as the setting for the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320, a letter from Scottish nobles to Pope John XXII asserting Scotland's independence. Postcards of the abbey ruins remain popular with collectors.
