Shropshire Postcards: Ironbridge Gorge and Shrewsbury

Shropshire postcards for sale are led by Ironbridge Gorge, home to the world's first iron bridge across the River Severn. Designed by Thomas Farnolls Pritchard and completed in 1779 under ironmaster Abraham Darby III, it became a symbol of the Industrial Revolution and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. Postcards of the bridge and the gorge's furnaces and warehouses are a regular feature of this collection.

Shrewsbury postcards show the county town sitting in a loop of the River Severn, with its red sandstone Shrewsbury Castle and timber-framed streets. Shrewsbury was also the birthplace of Charles Darwin in 1809, born at Mount House on the edge of town, and postcards of the town often nod to that connection.
