These smaller pieces appeal for the everyday detail they reveal about the people who carried them, engraved seals, personalised medals and keepsakes rather than jewellery worn purely for show. Fob seals were carried on a watch chain and used to stamp a wax seal on letters and documents, with the seal itself cut into hard stone such as carnelian or agate, or occasionally glass. They date mainly from the Georgian and Victorian eras, before the practice of sealing letters with wax fell out of everyday use.
We also occasionally carry pieces from further afield, including Straits Chinese Peranakan silver belt buckles, elaborately worked pieces once worn as part of traditional dress across the Malay Peninsula and Singapore from the late 19th century onwards.
