Belvoir Castle is one of the great set-pieces of this collection. The current castle is a 19th-century Gothic Revival rebuild, completed for the Duke and Duchess of Rutland after a fire in 1799, and the Manners family have held the site for close to a thousand years. It sits almost exactly where Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire meet, overlooking the Vale of Belvoir, which is also where you'll find Stathern, one of the villages featured in this collection.
Market Harborough has held a weekly market since 1204, and its postcards show a proper working market town, including the timber-framed Old Grammar School of 1614, raised above street level on wooden pillars. Castle Donington's postcard captures Donington Hall around 1906, when it was in use as a convalescent home; the Hall had been the seat of the Hastings family, Earls of Huntingdon, since the 1790s, long before the area became known for the Donington Park motor racing circuit next door.
Postcards in this collection span the early 1900s through to the mid-20th century, taking in everything from grand country houses to everyday market town photography. New stock is added regularly, so it's worth checking back if a particular Leicestershire town or landmark isn't here today.
