Cheshire postcards for sale are centred on Chester, one of England's best-preserved walled cities, home to a cathedral founded in 1092 as a Benedictine abbey by Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester. It's one of the most photographed subjects in Cheshire postcards, rebuilt and restored across several centuries and captured from nearly every angle, inside and out.
Chester's Roman and medieval walls are another recurring theme, along with King Charles Tower, said to be where Charles I watched his army's defeat at the Battle of Rowton Moor in 1645, and timber-framed buildings such as Bishop Lloyd's Palace on Watergate Street and the buildings along St Werburgh Street and Eastgate. Beyond the city, Eaton Hall, seat of the Duke of Westminster, and Cholmondeley Castle both feature, alongside Little Moreton Hall near Congleton, widely regarded as the finest timber-framed building in Britain.
The Wirral towns of Birkenhead, Bromborough, Eastham, New Brighton and Ellesmere Port were part of Cheshire until 1974, so postcards of them are included here too. New Cheshire postcards are added regularly, so it's worth checking back from time to time.
