The History Behind Our Cambridgeshire Postcards

Cambridgeshire postcards for sale include two of the county's best-known places: Ely Cathedral and the historic city of Cambridge. Ely Cathedral is nicknamed the Ship of the Fens, since it stands on raised ground and can be seen for miles across the flat surrounding fenland. Postcards of the cathedral show it from many angles, along with the Lady Chapel and the Choir inside.

Cambridge postcards feature King's College Chapel, home to the largest fan vault ceiling in the world, along with the Bridge of Sighs at St John's College, Christ's College, and Silver Street Bridge next to Queens' College. Postcards from March, Wisbech, St Neots and other Cambridgeshire towns appear too, and it's worth checking back for new arrivals.

FAQs

What time period are these Cambridgeshire postcards from?

Most of the postcards in this collection date from the early to mid-1900s, though this varies by item. Some carry a postmark on the back showing the date they were posted, which can help pinpoint exactly when they were sent. Where we know the date, we note it in the listing.

Do your Cambridge postcards show exteriors, interiors, or both?

Our Cambridge postcards include a mix of exterior views of the colleges and landmarks, with interior views also available from time to time. Check the listing photo to see the exact view for each postcard.

Do you have postcards showing Cambridge from the river?

Yes, riverside views along the River Cam do feature in the collection from time to time, showing colleges and bridges from the water. Check the listing photos for the exact view.

Some of these postcards have handwriting on the back, can I read it?

Some of our postcards were posted years ago and carry a handwritten message from the sender, along with a postmark showing when and where it was sent. It's one of the loveliest parts of collecting vintage postcards, being able to look back at a message someone wrote decades ago. Where a postcard includes writing on the back, we photograph it clearly so you can read it before you buy.

Will you get more Ely or Cambridge postcards in future?

We add new stock regularly, so it's worth checking back from time to time if you're looking for something specific that isn't currently listed.

Do you combine postage if I order more than one postcard?

Yes, we combine postage across all items on our store. We post worldwide, and UK orders of £50 and over qualify for free shipping.

Is the postcard photo the actual item, or a generic photo?

The photograph on each listing is of the actual postcard you'll receive, not a generic or stock image, so you can see exactly what you're getting.

How are the postcards packaged when posted?

Each postcard is placed within a protective sleeve and posted in a hardback envelope, to keep it protected and prevent it from bending in transit.

What condition are the postcards in?

We photograph each postcard closely so you can see its actual condition before you buy. Due to their age, some general wear is normal, such as light creasing, corner wear, or toning, and condition can vary from postcard to postcard.
