Northumberland postcards for sale are centred on its castles. Alnwick Castle has belonged to the Percy family since Henry Percy bought it in 1309, and among the family's most famous members was Sir Henry 'Hotspur' Percy, later immortalised in Shakespeare's Henry IV. Bamburgh Castle has an even older story: it was the seat of the Kings of Northumbria as early as the 6th century, long before William Rufus built its surviving keep around 1095.

Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, postcards draw on the priory St Aidan founded there in 635 AD, home to the Lindisfarne Gospels and the shrine of St Cuthbert until Viking raids forced the monks to leave in the 9th century.
